For the past 10 years, The City of Santa Monica’s Cultural Affairs Department hosts a live jazz concert outdoors every Sunday from 5-7pm during the month of August.
People of all ages are welcome to this free event as the City strives to empower more active community participation in culture and the arts. Families and couples head to Santa Monica’s Stewart Street Park with picnic baskets in tow (or pocket money if patronizing the food trucks that frequent these gatherings). Then they either dance, relax, and enjoy lively music in the park while the children engage in outdoor sports activities on the lawn or play on the nearby children’s jungle gym.
My family met other local families here for a leisurely Sunday evening twice this year and really enjoyed ourselves. My personal favorite musical lineup was The California Feetwarmers; this guy’s passion for jazz exuded in his performance. It certainly enticed a lot of folks to get on their feet and dance to the music.
